Hearing aids have
been notoriously high since the first
digital hearing aids
were released in 1995.
So, before buying
new hearing aids consider
the options of where and how to buy them:
1. National
chains - including Amplifon, Hidden
Hearing, Regional Hearing
and Boots Hearing Care. These companies offer
excellent service and long standing reputation,
but they incur
very high overheads running their operations
nationally and as such are the most
expensive option. They are restricted on supplier
choice as they are all part owned by one of the
suppliers. Prices vary between £500 and £3500
per ear.
2. Local
independent retailers - many have been around for
years, some are well established and very
successful, mostly working from branches. Prices vary from £400 -
£2500 per ear.
3. The
Internet - there are now several Internet
sites promoting the supply of discount hearing aids. Most use a
network of independent dispensers working
nationally as a
group - some use the same group of dispensers. This minimises overheads and helps bring
the cost of hearing aids down. Prices
still vary from £350 - £1600 per ear, for the latest digital hearing aids released by
all the leading suppliers in the world. Read the
warning below.
You
can make savings of up to almost 60% between the
most expensive national chains and the best
internet companies. Note: The service and
product is exactly the same, and we are all
registered with the same governing body -
The Health Professions
Council.
WARNING:
Some
other websites promoting hearing aids are not well established, and some
are use roaming
dispensers travelling the breadth of the country
- both could jeopardise your aftercare. You
can check how
long a company has been in business by checking their date of incorporation
via this link -
Companies House
- only use a company that has been
established for at least 2 years or more and check your dispenser is
not travelling excessive distance to come out to you.
