FM accessories are devices that are used in conjunction with hearing aids that give extra benefit listening to speech in the presence of noise or over distance.
FM stands for 'frequency modulated' radio waves. For hearing aids this means we can connect hearing aids to other electronic devices using FM signals to transmit sound between the devices. FM accessories have been a boon for school kids with listening problems for many years, as the teacher can wear an FM neckloop which transmits his/her voice to FM receivers wore several children simultaneously. So regardless of the babble noise or the direction the teacher is facing, the wearers have a greater chance of hearing what is being said by the teacher. For adults these FM accessories can be worn at conferences, in large meetings, lecture halls and restaurants, etc.
FM hearing aid accessories are often overlooked as people don't know enough about them, and also because they can be an expensive add-on.
FM solutions are similar to Bluetooth accessories which are now becoming very popular. Both can be plugged into audio devices such as televisions, computers, telephones, MP3 players. The advantage of FM over Bluetooth is that FM doesnt 'drop' the signal and can be used over greater distance (up to about 30m), but Bluetooth is more affordable and is becoming ubiquitously used but is limited to 10m maximum distance and can be less reliable.
