Auracast at Brighton Station
Hear train announcements clearly!
A Milestone for Accessible Travel
In July 2026, Brighton Station took a major leap forward in accessible transit by installing a cutting-edge Auracast™ broadcast audio system. Alongside trailblazing transport hubs like Bristol Temple Meads, Brighton is leading the way in adopting this next-generation technology. Co-developed by Ampetronic and Listen Technologies, the new infrastructure—named Auri—is designed to stream live, crystal-clear station announcements directly into the ears of passengers navigating the concourse.
This deployment represents a monumental shift for individuals wearing compatible Bluetooth LE Audio hearing aids. By bypassing the echoes and heavy background noise typical of major transport hubs, hearing aid wearers can now rely on direct-to-ear clarity for critical platform alterations and departure updates.
How Auracast Transforms the Station Experience
Traditional public address systems rely on sheer volume to cut through ambient noise. Auracast™ operates entirely differently, delivering uncompressed audio directly from the station's announcement feed to personal receivers.
- Direct Audio Stream: Broadcasts live station announcements straight to personal devices, entirely bypassing loud station background noise.
- Compatible Tech: Works seamlessly with Auracast-enabled hearing aids, cochlear implants, consumer earbuds, and headphones.
- Shared Transmitters: Utilises multi-receiver Auri hardware rather than individual pairing channels, allowing an unlimited number of passengers to tune in simultaneously.
- Enhanced Accessibility: Helps passengers with hearing loss catch critical updates they might otherwise miss during busy commuter hours.
- Broad Inclusivity: Assists neurodiverse travellers or those managing sensory overload by allowing them to receive information clearly while wearing noise-cancelling headphones.
- Major Sponsorship: Funded and supported by Greater Thameslink Railway (GTR) across Southern, Thameslink, and Gatwick Express routes.
Other UK Venues Adopting Auracast
Beyond Brighton Station, the United Kingdom is seeing a rapid expansion of Auracast™ installations across major public venues, ensuring that high-quality auditory accessibility becomes a standard expectation rather than an exception.
- Bristol Temple Meads (Railway Station): A pioneer in early integration, adopting the technology to prove the immense value of direct-to-ear announcements in heavily congested, echoing transport environments.
- Contact Theatre (Manchester): Proudly became one of the first theatres in England to integrate Auracast, dramatically enhancing the live performance experience for audiences with hearing loss.
- Everyman Theatre (Gloucestershire): This 778-seat historic venue has deployed Ampetronic hardware to broadcast stage audio directly to modern hearing aids.
- Ropetackle Arts Centre (Shoreham-by-Sea): A community-focused venue paving the way for inclusive local arts via broadcast audio.
- Blackfriars Theatre: Ensuring every patron enjoys crystal-clear theatrical audio, regardless of seating position.
Auracast™ Social Streaming & Bluetooth LE Audio
Auracast™ broadcast audio represents a revolutionary advancement in wireless technology, transforming how hearing aid wearers experience public sound. Operating on the ultra-efficient Bluetooth® LE Audio standard, Auracast™ allows a single audio transmitter to broadcast clear, uncompressed audio directly to an unlimited number of nearby hearing aids and compatible earbuds simultaneously.
Rather than struggling with muffled public address speakers or room reverberation, hearing aid users can tune directly into broadcast channels in public venues such as airport boarding gates, train stations, places of worship, lecture halls, cinemas, and sports bars. Beyond public venues, Auracast™ enables social sharing with family and friends, allowing multiple users to stream audio from a shared TV or laptop effortlessly.
